I chose this because it shows a different side to Holden. So far we have heard about everything that makes him depressed and things that he hates, but here he shows signs of remorse, and I never thought he would show this side. Even though it isn't a big topic, he still shows some sign of guilt.

I agree with your interpretation, Amanda. Throughout the novel, the Holden that we see is truly portrayed as someone with no guilt, or sympathy. In your chosen passage, we see Holden as a character who cares for others; someone who has sympathy towards someone else's feelings - and someone who can now possibly place themselves in another individual's shoes and feel as they are feeling. This is a new quality of Holden's; as he is usually someone who is rough and tough, not caring about the feelings of others.
ReplyDeleteJenna, I completely agree with what you discussed. And you also Amanda. Holden doesn't seem to have too many regrets in his life. He is carefree with his life and lacks sympathy. He seems to show emotions in the passage you selected
